Katie is to appear in the PBS National Memorial Day concert which is taking place this Sunday, May 24 at the United States Capitol and airs live on PBS from 8-9:30 PM (ET).
One of the features in this year’s concert will be the story of wounded soldiers. Katie Holmes and Dianne Wiest will join concert co-host Gary Sinise for a segment about the families of disabled vets. Sinise will narrate the story including how the soldier, Jose Pequeno, sustained a devastating traumatic brain injury in Iraq and was written off for dead. Dianne Wiest and Katie Holmes will then do a dramatic presentation of the story as told through the perspective of Jose’s mother, Nellie Bagley (played by Wiest) and his sister, Elizabeth (played by Holmes).

Katie Holmes has been working on a highly secret fashion line for over a year, it has emerged.
She has been secretive about her plans for the line and will not yet unveil whether or not it will be available to the masses.
The line is titled Holmes-Yang and is a collaboration between Holmes and her stylist pal, Jeanne Yang.
“We started about a year ago, sketching different things, trying to find comfortable clothing for our daughters that is also pretty and cute,” the New York Daily News quoted Holmes, as telling Glamour magazine.
Holmes has stepped out twice in the line to rave reviews.
The first glimpse of the line was last summer, when Katie was seen in a leather and silk piece. The second peek came two months later, when she stepped out in an ivory silk jumpsuit with black lace sleeves.
Holmes was reported to be planning a full-fledged runway show at New York Fashion Week in September, but the rumours have been dismissed.
Holmes has hinted at public expansion of the line.
Katie Holmes has got one up on best pal Victoria Beckham – her child wins in the style stakes.
Suri, the actress’s daughter with hubby Tom Cruise, was named the best dressed celebrity child in a recent poll. The two-year-old beat Victoria and David’s kids Brooklyn, Romeo and Cruz, leaving the boys in second place in the poll by kids clothing company Chatterpants.
Also on the list were Myleene Klass’s daughter Ava and Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie’s ever-expanding brood. Maddox, Pax, Zahara, Shiloh, Knox and Vivienne made it into fourth place despite the fact Knox was recently seen sporting a flat cap to match his megastar dad’s.
Next on the list were Gwen Stefani and Gavin Rossdale’s children Kingston and baby Zuma, who are often seen sporting bright colours to match their mum’s outlandish style.
Madonna’s children – Lourdes, Rocco and adopted son David -have to make do with sixth place, despite Lourdes having a wardrobe that would be the envy of girls twice her age.
It seems that no celebrity kid can match up to the exacting standards of Tom and Katie’s little princess Suri.
