The Sundance Film Festival received a final dose of Tinseltown when Channing Tatum, Ray Liotta, and Katie Holmes arrived Friday for the closing-night premiere of the cop thriller The Son of No One. Mainly, though, it was all about Katie. When Homes entered the Eccles Theatre via a side door, row after row of festival attendees stood up, yanking out their cameras to ambush the actress with more flashes of light than are present in the opening-credits sequence of Enter the Void. To me, the Sundance crowd has generally presented themselves as sophisticated cineastes, so it was somewhat unexpected to see this audience react with such paparazzi-esque fervor. But, ultimately, no harm done.
The Son of No One, which was directed by Dito Montiel (A Guide to Recognizing Your Saints), received polite but unenthusiastic applause. The film is set in 2002 and follows the quiet Queens police officer Jonathan White (Tatum), whose childhood (and specifically two bloody crimes) comes back to haunt him. Holmes plays White’s wife, while Liotta and Al Pacino portray Capt. Mathers and Det. Stanford, respectively, of the 118th Precinct. When a local newspaper starts publishing anonymous letters regarding the two aforementioned (and still unprosecuted) crimes, Mathers tasks White with getting to the bottom of the increasingly humiliating scandal. And things get, well, messy.

PARIS – Miramax and Pathe International are teaming up to turn on the lights across the globe for Don’t be Afraid of the Dark with Pathe International set to distribute the Miramax-made film outside of North America, both companies said Friday.

The story follows a little girl sent to live with her father and his girlfriend in an old mansion who accidentally unleashes malevolent creatures who are out to destroy them.
Pathe International will handle distribution for the title outside of North America and will kick off sales at the EFM in Berlin next month.
“We are thrilled to be partnering with Miramax, Guillermo and the film-makers to bring what is undoubtedly one of 2011′s most eagerly awaited genre films to international audiences,” Pathe’s evp Francois Ivernel said.
Pathe and Miramax last partnered for Gnomeo and Juliette, which will hit French theaters on Feb. 16th.
US Weekly reports on the supposed mass exodus at Sundance of Katie’s Film “The Son of No One”. The producer of the film shared his thoughts on the story:
“Despite Katie’s few scenes, she was fantastic in the role!” producer and sales agent Cassian Elwes tells UsMagazine.com. “We’ve already received three offers on the film. We’re 100 percent behind her and the entire cast’s performances in this film.”
As for reports that people left before the credits rolled, Elwes explains a projectionist mistakenly turned on the lights two scenes before the end of the film.
“There wasn’t a mass exodus,” says Elwes. “The people who did see it, liked the film.”
That includes Holmes, 32. “She loves the film and she’s great in it,” Elwes tells Us. “She’s very upset by this attack.”

“We are thrilled to have Katie as the face of Ann Taylor. Katie personifies the Ann Taylor brand – smart, talented, incredibly chic, and living a full life with beauty and grace. We admire and respect Katie for her intellect, kindness and enduring personal style,” said Christine Beauchamp, President of Ann Taylor Stores.
“I’ve been a fan of Ann Taylor since I was a young girl. I grew up loving the clothes…and am really excited to be the face of Ann Taylor for the Spring season. I am thrilled to be part of a brand I believe in,” said Holmes.

LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) – Sundance 2011 can chalk up its first bomb.
“The Son of No One,” a highly anticipated crime drama starring Al Pacino, Channing Tatum, Ray Liotta, Juliette Binoche and Katie Holmes, prompted a stream of walkouts during a preview for media and industry players Monday.
The gritty New York-set feature from Dito Montiel, the filmmaker behiond the award-winning 2006 Sundance crime drama “A Guide to Recognizing Your Saints,” will premiere as the closing-night selection on Friday.
Though the theater wasn’t full Monday, the room was crowded with executives from such studios as Samuel Goldwyn, Paramount, Summit, Weinstein Co., Sony, IFC Films, Morgan Creek, Miramax and Relativity.
Some of them, however, were gone well before the end credits. In addition, enough regular audience members left early for one observer to describe it as an “exodus.”
The negative response went beyond the walkouts. One viewer’s attempt to begin applause after the lights came up drew almost no takers.
None of this is to say that the film won’t find a studio home. As Sundance veterans know, plenty of films with lukewarm responses go on to find buyers and audiences, especially genre films featuring big stars. But as of the first viewing, that work just got a lot harder for the agents handling the film.
Channing Tatum’s past is coming back to haunt him in Son of No One…and it’s starting to stress Katie Holmes out.
The drama, also starring Oscar-winner Al Pacino, is premiering at this year’s Sundance Film Festival, is a gripping story of a young cop (Tatum) facing down the fact that a murder he got away with years ago may be exposed.
Channing is clearly feeling the pressure as a nosy reporter (Juliette Binoche) tries to get to the bottom of what happened—nothing like punching a locker to get your frustration out. But lucky for him, Pacino’s on his side, working overtime to keep things secret.
It’s great seeing Pacino in the classic tough-guy cop role he does so well. But the spookiest is by far Holmes as Tatum’s wife, answering late-night calls from mysterious voices that are threatening her family.
